Elaborando un mondo in miniatura per un corpo leggermente fuori misura per il suo ambiente. O andando nella direzione opposta. Cambiando misure , giustapponendo apparentemente dimensioni inadeguate per creare effetti contrastanti. Soltanto recitazione. Il corpo di un bambino, di un giovane uomo, sta sul palco. Lo scopo di questo corpo è riempiere il vuoto o lasciare l’ apparente vastità dello spazio di azione?
Il nome del ballerino è Ethan. Ha 16 anni. Lo conosco da più di sei anni. Lo vidi danzare e lo sentii cantare. Mi emozionò. Ethan ha la fragilità e l’ innocenza dei giovani di quella età insieme alla forza di un cavallo fermamente ancorato al suolo.
Una scenografia simile a un sogno, quella designata in collaborazione con l’ artista Constantin Alexandris. Fui affascinato dal lavoro di Constantin un paio di anni fa. Lui creava le sue istallazioni a misura d’ uomo. Tornando al 2008, pianificammo un lavoro su una struttura , una sorta di braccio perno che avrebbe potuto sollevare un soffitto su e giù. E così lavorammo sulla riduzione o espansione dello spazio. Alterando le dimensioni per trattenere o lasciare che un corpo si perda, questi i principi che sono al servizio di Ethan.

 

Conceiving a miniature world for a body slightly oversized for its environment. Or going the opposite way. Changing scales, juxtaposing seemingly inadequate dimensions for contrasting effect. Acting, basically. The body of a child, of a young man, sets the stage. Does this body aim to fill a void or let the apparent vastness of space act? The dancer name is Ethan. He is 16. I’ ve known him for over 6 years. I saw him dancing and heard him singing. He moved me. He has the fragility and innocence of young people of his age combined with the power of a horse firmly anchored in the ground.
A set designed in collaboration with artist Constantin Alexandrakis will provide a dream-like setting. Together we will craft an environment from a confetti shower that he has a unique talent for. I was ecstatic about Constantin’s work a couple of years ago. He designs his installations with human scale in mind. Back in 2008, we planned to work on a structure, a kind of swivel arm that could lift a ceiling up and down. And so we worked on a space reduction or expansion. Altering dimensions to restrain or let a body loose, these principles are at work for Ethan.
