Homo ridens è una performance pensata come esperimento su campione, un test sul pubblico-cavia chiamato a reagire a determinati stimoli che attengono al riso e ai suoi meccanismi. Il progetto rivede e aggiorna i risultati delle proprie ricerche in ogni città e di conseguenza ne prende il nome. L’intento è quello d’indagare l’attitudine umana alla risata, misurandone i limiti e la complessità. Nel riso rinunciamo alla funzione vitale del respiro, nel riso è la parte aggressiva di noi che ci fa digrignare i denti, nel riso è l’intrattenimento del potere ma anche la rivolta popolare. Sappiamo che la coscienza di sé permette all’uomo di vedersi dall’esterno. Sappiamo che la coscienza di sé rende l’uomo consapevole della morte. Ma cosa c’è da ridere?

Homo ridens is a performance conceived as an experiment on a sample, as a test the audience is put through. The ‘guinea pig’ audience is asked to react to a given stimulus regarding laugh and its driving mechanisms. The project checks and updates its research results each town: that’s why the title includes the town’s name. The main purpose is analysing human approach to laugh, measuring its limits and complexity. When we laugh, we give up the vital function of breathing; when we laugh our aggressiveness comes out and we grind our teeth. Laughter is used both by the power to entertain us and by the people to rebel. We know that self-consciousness gives men the chance to see themselves from outside themselves. We know that self-consciousness makes men aware of death. Then why are we laughing?
